With the controversy swirling over the Canadian news report and the mentioning of senior economic advisor to the Obama campaign, Austan Goolsbee, in the latest update on that news outlet's website, this might be the perfect time to promote Naomi Klein's seminal work in her most recent book "Shock Doctrine, The Rise of Disaster Capitalism" to see why the Chicago School of Economics is a funny place to find economic advisors to what many feel is the (unjustly, as positions and statements pour forth)progressive campaign of Barack Obama
I'm writing this diary because Naomi Klein's book has had a profound effect on me - it has enabled me to look at recent political( I mean within the last 40 years) events with a fresh eye and after reading her work there is no doubt that the "Chicago boys", those economists influenced by the work and teachings of Milton Friedman, have a pernicious influence over our economic policy.
Austen Goolsbee is the chief economic advisor to Barack Obama and there have been many thoughtful diaries written here that detail his background and statements of economic philosophy as well as others in the Obama campaign.
Such a diary as this one
I really consider this my chance to promote Klein's book and to take advantage of the the ability of the internet to share knowledge:when we learn who a candidate's advisors are we learn tremendously about how that candidate would govern if they should be elected.
Caveat emptor applies to voting as well.
Or it should.
