MA Dem. State Party Chair endorses Obama for President

The Chair of the MA Dem State Party, Phillip Johnston, has announced his support for Sen Barack Obama for President in '08.

The Boston Globe has the announcement here

As a caveat, Johnston is expected to step down as Chair this spring, but the man who is expected to replace him - former Camapaign Manager for now Governor Deval Patrick, John Walsh, was very coy when I asked him recently who he was supporting in '08. He told me"Whoever Deval is supporting, I'm supporting"

Deval Patrick had both Obama and Bill Clinton campaigning for him during the past election. Gov. Patrick was a former Clinton Administration official, heading the Civil Rights Division at the Justice Department.

Phil Johnston was a former member of the Clinton Administration as well- if you read through the link I provided you saw that he was appointed New England regional administrator of the US Department of Health and Human Services during President Clinton's first term.

I think this is big news for Senator Obama.

I love my home state!  (Not to mention that we're an all blue delegation, and all 10 members of our congressional delegation are in the Out of Iraq Caucus.)

I attended the Feb Dem State Comm. meeting (none / 0)

for another reason (regarding blogging, actually) and sat through most of the meeting.

One of the agenda items presented to the State Committee was for members to consider moving MA's primary date away from NH's to make it later in the season. Reasons given was because MA could get an extra 30% number of delegates and mention was made that this could be a brokered convention -the presentation was made by someone who had attended the DNC winter meeting if I remember correctly-

Within the last 10 days it certainly seems as if Obama has garnered alot of support in MA by heavy hitters
